Vegetation Mapping.
Vegetation and tree canopy mapping and inventory are the first steps toward realizing the enormous benefits of urban green infrastructure, assessing the risk of wildfire, modeling the encroachment of vegetation on powerlines and utilities, and managing forests and agriculture.
- Sanborn uses lidar and high-resolution imagery along with AI/ML processing technology to develop models of vegetation that meet the needs of foresters, urban planners, powerline managers, utility planners, firefighters, and natural resource managers.

- Based on Sanborn tree canopy data, plans for small increases in tree canopy were modeled to reduce stormwater runoff by millions of cubic feet, saving millions of dollars. Expanding and protecting urban trees also reduces urban heat islands and has positive equity impacts. A small investment in data and analysis yields huge benefits in improved issue analysis and planning.
