The Challenge

NYPA wanted a map-based solution to scout optimal locations for deploying EV Chargers across New York. The existing process to identify and score potential locations was time-consuming as they used spreadsheets and manually searched through many different data sources.

The Outcome

NYPA launched a map-based EV Charger Station Location Scouting app in Google Cloud that enables the user to adjust a series of filters to display optimal charging locations, identify gaps in coverage along major corridors, and get detailed information about the identified locations. Behind the scenes a process automates the ingestion and aggregation of data from many different sources.

The Details

Sanborn was a subcontractor to SpringML and provided support for the application requirements gathering and design efforts. Sanborn then developed Phase 1 of the application using the pilot data created and supplied by SpringML.

Key Results

A process was defined to automate scoring potential locations. NYPA identified gaps in coverage along major corridors and better understood the suitability of existing proposed locations. The application allowed NYPA to identify potential locations for future EV charging stations. Using the application significantly reduced the time NYPA staff spent on this task compared to the manual method.
