Chris: We are nationwide so we definitely push the envelope in terms of acquisition and processing of lidar data. We are a USGS GPSC4 Prime…last year I think we were on the order of 60,000+ square miles of USGS spec data.
The USGS won’t fund 100% of anything. The idea here is that we get more bang for our buck through group strategies whereby join funding strategies get more data provided. It’s a multiple award acquisition vehicle. We’re one of 10 [GPSC approved contractors].
This year was the first year that they’ve allowed both 3DEP (which is the lidar collection) and then 3DHP. The three-dimensional hydrographic program applications are allowed, so you can apply for either path here. So 3DEP, if you just need base lidar collected you want to upgrade maybe, maybe you’ve got five-year or older area, we can do that. The 3DHP is more of a modeling contract where we go in and we edit existing lidar data or collect new data and edit on top of that, we’re allowed to do that to. So, elevation derived hydrography is a thing that’s here to stay, and that program is becoming more and more mature in how it’s being used, and we’re excited about that.
3DHP applications are allowed but you can’t mix and match, you have to do one or the other, or both. If you want to apply for both, you can, but you have to do two separate applications.
